Question

My Laptop will not Recognize My Wireless Printer

I was using Canon wireless printer and it was working fine till yesterday. Actually, my laptop got infected with a virus and due to this problem, I have to reformat and reinstall everything that is present on my laptop. But after this, my laptop is not recognizing my printer and after that, I have also installed necessary software from Canon installation CD. Suggest me something that can work as I don’t want to waste my money on purchasing a new printer.

If your laptop is not recognizing your wireless printer then you need to check these bulletined points -

  • Your printer is off

Make sure your Canon printer is on and have a live connection. Also, check green light (backside) is also indicating. If your Canon printer is sharing is the physical connection with another system then verify that system also has the live network connection. If your Canon printer is non-responsive then restart it and reconnect everything.
  • Laptop is not connected to LAN

If you are using your laptop in office/ home then firstly you have to check physical connection between your laptop and office’s switch or home router. On the other hand, if you are working remotely, confirm that you have successfully connected via the virtual private network.
  • Network Discovery is disabled on your laptop

If Network Discovery is disabled then definitely you can’t see available wireless devices either it is a router or wireless printer. To check this, first, go to Start and then type “Network” in the search box. After this, you have to choose “Network and Sharing Center” from the displaying results. After this, move to left pane and tap on “Change Advanced Sharing Settings” and then expand the Home profile. Next, tap on “Turn on Network Discovery” option and then save the overall changes.
  • File and Printer Sharing is disabled on Print Server

If you want to access wireless devices then confirm that File and Sharing are enabled. Because if this feature is disabled then you can’t view or connect to any wireless services. To confirm this, access Network and Sharing Center and then click on the option “Turn on file and printer sharing”. At last, save the changes.
