Brother MFC Printer Won't Print Black Despite Full Ink Cartridges

I was not using my Brother MFC printer from 6 months. Yesterday, I replaced the ink cartridges of Brother printer because the previous ones were dried out. After replacing ink cartridges, when I ran some test prints, only three colors i.e. Magenta, Cyan, Yellow are working but black is not showing up. I have also tried cleaning maintenance option but that didn’t work.

Fix Brother MFC Printer Won't Print Black:

Main cause-

  • Check the Breather tape/ Shipping tape that is located on the top of the cartridge is removed before installing the cartridge. Because if you didn’t remove this tape then ink remains vacuum-sealed in the cartridge and will not come outside.

  • If your printer starts warning you that black ink cartridge is getting low and still you are printing in black then in such circumstances print-head can damage permanently.

  • Brother printers are CISS fitted so there may exist the risk of printhead clogging. If you are using poor-quality of ink then you may experience printing issues.

How to Prevent Brother Printer won’t Print Black Ink Problem-

  • Print at a regular basis

If you are printing regularly then there will be a constant ink flow through the print head which helps to prevent ink jams at the nozzle.
  • Use only high-quality generic ink cartridges

If you are using high-quality generic ink cartridges then your printer will print high-quality printouts.
  • Don’t place Brother printer in hot position

If you have placed your printer near the window or at any other warm place then ink may congeal inside the printhead. It is suggested by experts to place your printer at the appropriate position.

Follow These Steps if Your Brother Printer Stops Printing Black

  • Confirm that you have removed Breather tape from the top of the cartridge.
  • Make sure the new ink cartridge has been properly recognized by the printer.
  • From the LCD menu on your printer, run 2 nozzle cleans on the black print nozzle. You are suggested only to use nozzle cleaning procedure for 2-3 times only.

  • To set the highest quality photo mode, just try printing a few black images. By doing this, you will get an idea if all nozzles are working or not. Also, this will help to push the ink out of the nozzle.

Fix Brother Printer Not Printing Black:

Hey, looking at your query it seems that only the Black ink has an issue. I will discuss a few troubleshooting techniques to resolve the problem. Follow the instructions carefully:

Check if the Ink Cartridge has been Properly Set in Place

If other colors are working fine and only the black one is at fault then, chances are you might not have placed it correctly in its position. So open the top and take out your black ink cartridge. Now place it back and make sure it has been set correctly in its position.

Remove the Label from the Cartridge

If only the black ink is not working and since you have mentioned that it is a new one, chances are you forgot to remove the label/tape at the tip and that might be causing the issue. Remove your ink cartridge and see if the packaging label has been removed.

Clean the Printheads

Since you have mentioned that your printer has been idle for about 6 months then chances are the printhead might be getting blocked. So make sure to clean your printhead with a clean piece of cloth soaked in warm water and then print a test page to see if the problem is resolved.

Ink is Faulty

If any of the above-mentioned methods did not sort out your problem then chances are the ink cartridge you have bought is faulty. Replace the ink cartridge with a new one and make sure you only use the brand recommended ink. As using cheap and bad quality ink can damage your printer permanently.

Hopefully, these methods will help you resolve the brother printer not printing black issues you are currently facing. In case you have any further doubts or questions, feel free to reply back.
