How Long Can I Store a Printer Cartridge?
Store a Printer Cartridge:
It is always recommended to purchase more ink if you have a lot of printing work to do at home or office. However, you shouldn't buy too many cartridges as they may not be good for use if you don't store them properly. If you wish to know how long can you store an ink cartridge, then read below.
1) Sell by Dates
While purchasing toner or ink cartridges, you must check the warranty Expiration or Sell By dates. You will see a data label on the side of your cartridge box that has the expiration month and year.
If you use your ink cartridges after the expiration date, then they won't be fit for use. The inside of the cartridge box gets exposed to air and degrade the quality of ink. However, you can use ink cartridges for at least 2 years from the date of purchase for proper storage.
2) Storage Conditions
Just by carrying out the simple steps for storing your ink cartridges, you can keep them in the best condition for a long duration. This will prevent your printer from serious damage. You should never keep your cartridges in a hot car.
Moreover, you should store them at a room temperature of 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Plus, you should keep the cartridges in an upright position. Don't keep the cartridges in the closets or cabinets that have cleaning materials like bleach or ammonia. The presence of such cleaning chemicals can degrade the toner's composition.
3) Storage of Used Cartridges
If you have a daily printing requirement, then you should not worry about ink drying out. However, if you are taking some time off from work or going on a vacation, then the unused cartridges may go bad.
To avoid this from happening, take out the ink cartridge from the printer. After that, seal the ink in a resealable storage bag. The zipper bag needs to have a damp sponge. Now, keep the sealed bag in a closet or cabinet. This way, you will be able to store used cartridges for 2-3 months.
4) Remanufactured Vs New
Another thing that can help you decide how long you can store a printer cartridge is its condition at the time of purchase. You can store new cartridges for a longer duration in comparison to the old cartridges. The seal of remanufactured or refilled cartridges is not as tight as the seal of new cartridges.
How you store remanufactured cartridges determine their life length. It is recommended to use remanufactured or refilled cartridges within 6 months from the date of purchase. As far as it is concerned about new cartridges, then you can store them for at least 18 months.
