How to Fix Brother Printer Error TS-07?

Error TS-07 on a Brother printer means the printer cannot detect paper in the tray even though paper is loaded. The printer thinks the tray is empty and refuses to print. This error is common on Brother inkjet models like the MFC and DCP series and it is usually caused by a paper feed problem, a dirty sensor, or incorrectly loaded paper.

Check How the Paper Is Loaded

Pull out the paper tray completely and remove all the paper. Fan the stack of paper to separate any sheets that are stuck together. Place the paper back in the tray and make sure it sits flat without any curled or bent edges. Adjust the paper guides on both sides and the front so they touch the edges of the paper snugly but not too tight. Overloading the tray beyond the maximum fill line can also trigger TS-07 because the paper stack is too thick for the feed roller to grab properly.

Clean the Paper Feed Rollers

Dirty or dusty paper feed rollers are one of the most common causes of the TS-07 error. The rollers lose their grip and cannot pull paper into the printer. Remove the paper tray and look for the small rubber rollers inside the printer. Dampen a lint-free cloth with water and gently wipe each roller while rotating it by hand. Clean the entire surface of each roller. If the rollers feel smooth and shiny instead of slightly tacky, they are worn out and may need to be replaced.

Clean the Paper Detection Sensor

The Brother printer has a sensor inside the paper tray area that detects whether paper is present. If this sensor is covered with dust or paper debris, it cannot see the paper and triggers the TS-07 error. Look inside the printer near the bottom of the paper feed area for a small plastic tab or optical sensor. Use a dry cotton swab to gently clean around it. Also check for any small torn pieces of paper stuck near the sensor that could be blocking it.

Use the Correct Paper Size and Type

Make sure the paper you are using matches the size selected in the printer settings. If the printer is set to A4 but you loaded Letter size paper, the sensor may not detect it correctly because the paper does not reach the detection point. Go to the printer control panel, navigate to Paper Settings, and verify the paper size matches what is in the tray. Also avoid using paper that is too thin or too thick for your printer model. Standard 75 to 90 gsm copy paper works best for most Brother printers.

Reset the Printer

Turn off the Brother printer, unplug the power cord from the wall, and wait for at least 2 minutes. While the printer is unplugged, remove the paper tray, check for any jammed paper inside, and reinsert it. Plug the printer back in and turn it on. The printer will run through its startup sequence and re-check the paper tray. If the paper is loaded correctly, the TS-07 error should clear.

Check for a Paper Jam Inside

A small piece of torn paper jammed inside the feed mechanism can trick the sensor into reporting no paper. Open the back cover and the front cover of the printer and inspect the paper path for any scraps or debris. Use tweezers to carefully pull out any jammed paper. Also check underneath the paper tray for any paper that may have gotten stuck under the tray mechanism. Even a tiny piece can prevent the tray from seating properly and trigger the error.
