Fix Error 0x00000709 When You Try to Connect a Printer on Windows 10:

There can be nothing more troublesome than printer configuration or setup issues on your PC. When you encounter configuration issues, 0x00000709 error pops up before you. This issue arises if there is a default printer set.

This problem can also occur if the printer is not ready to configure the new printer at all. Here, we are going to explain two solutions that can help you resolve this issue.

1) Run Troubleshooter

The first solution that you can apply is to run the troubleshooter. Select the Windows key and R key simultaneously to launch the Run dialog box. After that, you need to enter the command given below.

msdt.exe /id PrinterDiagnostic

After that, you are required to carry out the instructions to fix the printer.

2) Use the Registry Editor

Press the R key and Windows key simultaneously to open Run and then type regedit. After that, press Enter. Select Yes for User Account Control Prompt that will appear before you. Now, the Registry editor will open up. Then, you are required to go to the key location mentioned below.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows

Now, go to the Windows folder and then open the "Device" file given on the right side. Then, you need to add the name of your printer in the field of "Value Data" and then select Ok.

After that, you will see an error message on your screen stating "Cannot edit Device: Error writing the value's new contents". Now, select Ok once again.

Before you go ahead with the next step, you must note the permissions. After you are done adding the printer, then you need to reverse the permission changes that you just made.

Go to your Windows folder and then right-click on it. Now, select permissions. The user name or group section will open up before you. There, you need to click on the "Restricted" option.

Now, under the permissions for restricted section, click on the Allow option from the three options given below. After you are done with that, you need to open the file named as UserSelectedDefault and then select the option of Rename to rename your printer. Restart your computer to bring the changes into effect.

When you are done adding the printer, reverse the permission changes.
