HP has introduced new printer firmware, which locks out after-market toner cartridges. The company did this with the intention to monopolize the HP toner market. This firmware has been created to kill third-party cartridges, leaving only one option for the users i.e., to buy OEM HP toners.
Another great thing about this toner is that it updates automatically without the consent of the user. If your aftermarket cartridge is impacted by the update, then you will see an error code on the screen.
Below mentioned are the printer models that get impacted by the firmware update.
As it is not possible for a user to reverse the update, the best thing for you to do is to disable the automatic update feature of your printer whenever it is possible.
