Ways to Reset HP Printer After Ink Refill
Once the cartridges get empty, one needs to refill them. While there are some printers that work without any issue after a refill. On the other hand, there are printer models that need a hard reset.
The issue arises because the printer fails to recognize the newly installed cartridges. You may even see a message on the screen that says, "third-party cartridge detected message" even when you install genuine HP cartridges.
When this happens, the best thing that you can do to resolve this issue is to reset your printer. This solution also works if you install third-party cartridges instead of genuine HP cartridges.
Tape Method
This reset method is useful when cartridge contacts gauge the ink level. Below are the steps that you need to follow to reset an HP printer using the tape method.
Step 1: Firstly, you need to make sure that the contacts of the cartridge are visible. Now, turn it around and check whether the contacts are on the lower side or not.
Step 2: Cover the contacts on the upper-left corner of your cartridge using tape.
Step 3: Now, place the cartridge back into your HP printer and then print an alignment page. Now, the printer is going to show a message that says "cartridge has problems".
Step 4: Once you are done with the alignment, take out the cartridge but don't take off the tape.
Step 5: After that, cover the contacts on the upper-right corner of your cartridge with the tape.
Step 6: Reinsert the cartridge and then print the alignment page. If you see any error messages in the process, then you must ignore them.
Step 7: Now, take out the ink cartridges.
Step 8: Without removing the tape that is on the upper side of the cartridge and then tape the lower-left corner.
Step 9: Then, place the cartridge back in the printer and print the alignment page one more time.
Step 10: After printing the alignment page, take out the cartridge.
Step 11: Place the cartridge back in your HP printer.
Step 12: Now, place the cartridges again.
Swap Method
Another way to reset the HP printer after ink refill is to use the swap method. Below mentioned are the steps that you need to follow to carry out the swap method.
Step 1: Install the refilled ink cartridge in your printer.
Step 2: Now, take a printout of the alignment page. In case you see an error message, then ignore it as it is not going to impact the reset process.
Step 3: Now, take out the ink cartridges from your printer.
Step 4: Install one of the old cartridges and try to print an alignment page using it. After that, your printer will detect a new cartridge.
Step 5: After that, remove this cartridge and install a cartridge from the old stack and try to print an alignment page using it. The printer will delete the memory of the old cartridge and recognize the newly-installed cartridge.
Step 6: Insert the newly-filled ink cartridges in the printer and try to print an alignment. Now, your printer will be able to recognize the ink cartridge.
